Travel Purpose: leisure
Positive: The location was great and the apartment was easy to get to, which made getting around Budva very convenient. The hostess was also very responsive and replied quickly whenever we contacted her. The apartment had everything we needed, with the only exception being toilet paper, which the host later brought to us. It was also well ventilated and had good air conditioning, which was especially appreciated in the Budva heat.
Negative: First and foremost all the linen had a terrible smell of body odor that we proceeded to wash ourselves. However, there was a serious safety issue with the apartment door and key. When we arrived, the owner told us that the key could be a little wobbly and advised us to be gentle with it and try a few times if it didn’t work. At the time, we thought this was just a minor inconvenience. Unfortunately, when it was time for us to leave, we were completely unable to open the door from the inside. The door would not budge, leaving us effectively trapped inside a third-floor apartment with no other safe way out. This is extremely concerning from a safety perspective — if there had been a fire, medical emergency, or any situation requiring us to leave immediately, we would have had no way to escape. We contacted the owner, but were told that he could come in approximately 1.5 hours, as the key was in another city in Montenegro, and we were not given an alternative person to contact who could arrive sooner. Luckily, we happened to know people who were staying nearby at the same time. We threw the key down to them from the balcony, and after around 20 minutes they were eventually able to get the door open from the outside. While we otherwise had a good stay, the inability to safely exit the apartment is a very serious issue that the owner needs to address immediately.
